Over the past two months, I’ve developed a newfound love for Anko’s DIY arts and crafts kits. So far, I’ve completed a textured painting, a paint-by-numbers project, and, most recently, a 40x40cm latch hook cushion cover.
While I bought the first two kits to keep me occupied during my husband’s trip, this latest kit caught my attention as its teal and light pink colours matched perfectly with my friend’s sofa and cushion. Plus, it was on sale for $5 (down from $17), and I love a good bargain! 😊 That said, I paid back in time for what I saved in money—an estimated 21 and a half hours 😭

The kit included everything needed to complete this project: a latch hook tool, seven yarn colours, and an instruction sheet. However, the instructions provided weren’t very clear. In fact, the method I settled on was very different from what the instructions suggested.

It took a few rows of practice to get used to the latch hooking process, but I eventually found some semblance of a rhythm—though the process felt fiddly throughout. I noticed the first few rows looked scrappy once completed too. To fix this, I started trimming the yarn to equal lengths after finishing each row. While this made a noticeable difference, it likely added over an hour to the project time.

Another challenge was the tedium. I struggled to work on it for more than an hour at a time, but with Christmas looming, I committed to working on it for an hour each morning and night. I found that listening to podcasts while I did this helped to keep my mind occupied, making the task a lot more enjoyable.

Though it took a long time to complete, the result was worth it, and I hope my friend will like it. If not, my mum has told me she will happily take it! 😊
